Seventeen Days (Formerly What Could You Do)

Main Message: Seventeen Days (formerly called “What Could You Do?”) is a theory-based interactive film created by Carnegie Mellon University’s Center for Risk Perception and Communication and designed to educate young women about contraception and sexually transmitted infections (STIs).

Target Population: Sexually active females ages 14-19 years old

Length: Around 45 minutes at initial viewing but  Additional sessions can range widely in length–depending on the viewer’s interests and choices–with
over three hours of interactive video material to choose from.

Program Size: One person at a time watching the video.


  1. Video and cognitive rehearsal.
  2. Self-efficacy, self-esteem, risk reduction and behavioral skills development.
  3. Sexuality/STD/HIV/AIDS education and prevention is discussed.
