New Rules for Federal Funding for Teen Pregnancy Prevention Programs

A funding announcement released by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services depicts new guidelines for federally funded teen pregnancy prevention programs. The agency seeks to fund programs for a two-year project period, favoring those that promote abstinence. The new rules are are also less strict about requiring programs to be evidence-based. This is a change from guidelines under the Obama Administration that awarded the largest grants to programs implementing curricula from an evidence-based list.
