SCDJJ's Teen Dating Violence in Vulnerable Populations

Thursday, April 30th, 2015 - 8:30am to 12:00pm

Virtually all violence in intimate partner relationships has focused on adults. Violence among adolescent dating partners remains an understudied phenomenon, particularly in minority and underserved populations. In this session, we assess the state of the research literature on teen dating violence in minority and underserved populations. There will particular attention to LGBT youth and the deaf and hard of hearing community.  Participants will learn what is known about risk factors and barriers to seeking help. We will also discuss effective prevention and intervention ideas.

Presented by Dr. Alex Karydi (SC Department of Juvenile Justice) and Lauren Burgess (Deaf Services, Department of Mental Health).
