SC Campaign Releases Statement on Latest Hollywood Pregnancy

Britney Spears's 16-year-old sister Jamie Lynn Spears is pregnant. The star of Nickelodeon's Zoey 101 confirmed to OK! magazine, saying she was 12 weeks and that the father is her longtime boyfriend Casey Aldridge.

Nickelodeon said in a statement: "We respect Jamie Lynn's decision to take responsibility in this sensitive and personal situation. We know this is a very difficult time for her and her family, and our primary concern right now is for Jamie Lynn's well being."

What message does she want to send to other teens about premarital sex? "I definitely don't think it's something you should do; it's better to wait," she told the magazine. "But I can't be judgmental because it's a position I put myself in."

Forrest Alton, Executive Director of the SC Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy, said: "This situation brings light to a very serious issue in our state and nation and provides a teachable moment for parents. Now is a great opportunity for parents to begin having conversations with their children about love, sex and relationships. This scenario also re-enforces the need for young people to have caring adults in their lives who serve as their role models instead of idealistic Hollywood figures."
