The BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina Foundation recently awarded grants totaling $2,886,791 to community groups serving health care needs in South Carolina. Among the awards was a $300,000 grant to the South Carolina Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy for a sexual risk reduction program.
Funding from this grant will allow the SC Campaign to continue uncovering innovative strategies that have been effective in reducing teen pregnancy. This grant provides the opportunity to explore the issue of teen pregnancy among 18-19 year old youth, particularly in those communities that have shown success decreasing teen pregnancy rates among this traditionally underserved population.
“The BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina Foundation understands the link between teen pregnancy and a host of other social issues,” said Forrest Alton, Executive Director of the South Carolina Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy. “A reduction in teen pregnancy contributes to the overall health and well being of South Carolina as a whole. We are grateful for the Foundation’s support and know that it will make a difference in teen pregnancy prevention efforts throughout the state.”
