Welcome to my blog

Welcome to a view of the world from behind my desk. I’m a bit new to this whole blog thing, but I’m told that I need to write about things that appear important to me in the moment – and things that are important to you always. Then you respond and I respond and we have great conversation about topics, issues and events that are worth talking about. Things like teen pregnancy prevention, college basketball, comprehensive sexuality education, gardening and the ever-changing world of youth culture. This section of our website is titled “Forrest’s Blog,” but many times you’ll hear from our wonderful staff because they are all much smarter than I am and always have lots of cool stuff to share.

For now you are stuck with me, so let’s get started…

First, it’s important to lay some groundwork. Teen pregnancy is a serious issue in our state and across the country. Teen pregnancy rates in the United States are some of the highest in the industrialized world and teen pregnancy rates in South Carolina are some of the highest in the United States. Add that up and it’s easy to see we have a lot of work to do. There is some good news though – teen pregnancy rates have decreased a great deal since the early 1990’s. Thus presents the challenge and the crux of our work at the South Carolina Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy… making sure the public understands the severity of teen pregnancy in South Carolina while celebrating the great progress that has been made over the last decade or so. This blog will come from all angles to address the critical issue of teen pregnancy. Stay tuned... we're just getting started!
